Isaiah 43:1-4 1But now, this is what the LORD says- he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. 4Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life

Here we are looking at the release of the Jews out of their captivity, yet God promises them during their afflictions to be with them, to support them and to deliver them.

But now, fear not, O Jacob! O Israel! I have redeemed thee, and you are mine.

Though much looks strange and difficult to us, God continues his love and care for his people. The Genesis Choir has sung this text many times. I treasure scripture that is set to music that comes to my spirit when I need to hear it.   The front cover of the anthem is the disciples in the boat during the storm with Jesus standing in the rough waters. He is an awesome God!
