Advent Study: A Savior is Born with Pete Briscoe
Has Christmas lost its significance? It’s one of the most familiar stories in human history: the birth of Jesus in a lowly manger in Bethlehem. A Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Yet, how can we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior in our frantic, consumer-driven society? How do we make sure the Christmas holiday remains a Holy Day? In each of the Advent sessions in this video Bible study, viewers will experience cinematic short films that capture events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. Then Pete Briscoe will open up Scripture to bring us back to the roots and heart of our faith in Christ.
Journey: Room 212, main level
Advent Study: All I Want for Christmas. Opening the Gifts of God’s Grace
From the time the Wise Men came to bring gifts, Christmas has been a time of giving gifts to our loved ones, to the less fortunate, to the church, to favorite charities, to family, to friends, and even to our pets. In the best spirit of Christmas we give and receive Christmas gifts, remembering the greatest Christmas gift of all…God’s gift of the Christ Child, God’s gift to us of a Savior. As we give and receive Christmas gifts, it is incredibly important to remember that the best Christmas gifts are wrapped in heaven.
Searching Our Heritage: Room 101, lower level
A Brief History and Review of the United Methodist Church’s Book of Discipline.
The Book of Discipline constitutes the law and doctrine of the United Methodist Church. It was originally published in 1784, in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has been published every four years thereafter following the meeting of the General Conference, which passes legislation that is included in the Book of Discipline. The most recent edition is that of 2016.
The Book of Discipline is much more than a book of rules, it is a way of discipleship, a mirror that reflects our history and helps us understand our heritage.
Seekers: Room 107, lower level
Advent Study: Under Wraps with Jessica LaGrone, Rob Renfroe, Ed Robb and Andy Nixon
Expectant. Dangerous. Jealous. Faithful. These are the themes used in the Old Testament to describe the layers of God’s character, but then Jesus—God under wraps—took on human flesh and came to live among us to reveal to us what God is really like. Under Wraps video study will show everyone what they can find when they open the true gift of Christmas.
Verse by Verse: Room 106, lower level
In Verse by Verse we will be studying the book of Acts. We carefully look at each verse and try to glean what the author was telling the audience then and how it applies to our lives now. We cross reference the Old Testament with the New Testament showing God’s never changing message to all.
