Hands of Hope:  Room 105, lower level

Starting June 16 – The Books of 1, 2 and 3 John with   Dr. Tony Evans

Comfortable Christianity often means a weak Christianity. In this study on John’s three letters, Dr. Tony Evans challenges Christians who have grown comfortable and complacent in their faith. Fellowship with God is the essence of our faith, and Tony walks through 1, 2 & 3 John to paint a picture of love, obedience, and truth. In a world that hates Jesus, we are called to love Him and His people with a fierce love.

Sovereign Hope: A Study of the Minor Prophets by     Claudia Barba

Claudia Barba asks, ‘[m]aybe at some point you’ve looked at the books of the [minor prophets] and wondered “Who were those people with such odd names, and what do their words have to do with me?” They’re not called minor because they matter less, but simply because they are shorter.’  You probably don’t sit down to read them much, but when you do, you may be surprised by how familiar you find them.  Barba  believes that the study of the minor prophets will help you hear from God, make sense of your world, face your own challenges and give you hope.  Come join us as we Journey through some of the lesser known names and short books of the Bible in Sovereign Hope.

Searching Our Heritage: New Room – Room 109, lower level

A Brief History and Review of the United Methodist Church’s Book of Discipline.

The Book of Discipline constitutes the law and doctrine of the United Methodist Church. It was originally published in 1784, in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has been published every four years thereafter following the meeting of the General Conference, which passes legislation that is included in the Book of Discipline. The most recent edition is that of 2016.

The Book of Discipline is much more than a book of rules, it is a way of discipleship, a mirror that reflects our history and helps us understand our heritage.

Seekers: Room 107, lower level

Starting June 9 – Jesus Continued: Why the Spirit Inside You is Better Than Jesus Beside You with J.D. Greear

Why do so many of us think of Christianity as a lifestyle to which we conform, rather than a God with whom we commune? Jesus gave His disciples the audacious promise that it was to their advantage that He go back to heaven because the Holy Spirit could then come to live inside of them. How many of us consider our connection to the Holy Spirit so strong and so real that we would call his presence in us better than Jesus beside us? Throughout his Christian life, J.D. Greear felt disconnected to God and unsure about how to interact with Him. Although he had learned a lot of truths about God, these truths didn’t seem to bring him any closer to Him. He tried to have such a relationship, but all of God’s work seemed stockpiled in the past: He created the world, died on a cross, and left a Bible. God seemed like a busy teacher who had given an assignment and then stepped out of the room, leaving students to get the work done on their own. But Greear discovered it doesn’t have to be like that. And this Bible study has been created to help you relate to the Holy Spirit in new ways. Over the course of this study, you’ll see how you can have a satisfying, powerful relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.

Verse by Verse: Room 106, lower level
