Current Study: “Consequences of Ideas” by R.C. Sproul

To understand the culture in which we live in, you need to be familiar with the ideas that have shaped it. In Ligonier’s survey series, The Consequences of Ideas, R.C. Sproul traces the contours of Western philosophy throughout history and shows how our culture evolved to what it is today.

From ancient Greek thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle to Christian philosophers such as Augustine, Anselm and Aquinas to the shapers of modern thought such as Hume, Kant and Nietzsche, R.C. demonstrates the consequences of each of these and other important thinkers’ ideas on world events, theology, the fine arts and culture, as well as our everyday lives.

Listen, and you will hear echoes of their ideas in your daily conversations-especially as you witness to unbelievers. .

November 14-December 5Living on Purpose by Rajiv Chelladurai, 4 sessions

Being intentional about our goals is a well-understood concept in the secular and corporate world. Generally, people who are more intentional about what they need to accomplish are more likely to get things done and be far more successful.

But is finding our life’s purpose just about getting through a checklist? Or is there something far greater at stake? What should we do to fulfill God’s agenda for us and how?

In this four-part series, author, business consultant, and coach Rajiv Chelladurai helps us answer these questions by examining “four Ps” of finding your purpose.”

Current Study: The Acts of the Apostles” video series by Louie Giglio

“In a world that is unsure of where to find truth or purpose, the book of Acts stands apart. It reveals God’s plan for global redemption, his purpose for our lives, and the power he has given us to accomplish his mission.  Walk through the story of the early church. Acts may have been written two thousand years ago, but God is calling us to be a part of that story today.”

November 21 – December 19: It’s A Wonderful LifeAdvent Study

It’s a Wonderful Life is one of the most popular and heart-warming films ever made. It’s near universal appeal and association with Christmas has provided a rich story of redemption that has inspired generations for decades.

It’s a Wonderful Life Study Guide examines this beloved holiday classic and reminds us how easily we can become distracted from what is truly meaningful in life. This five-week Bible study experience comes complete with discussion questions for each session, Scripture references, detailed character sketches, movie summary, and related commentary. In addition, video segments for each session are available for free online.

There’s no better time than at Christmas to be reminded that every human life has value and that true wealth, spiritual wealth, comes from a right relationship with God and selfless love toward others.

A book goes along with this study. Contact Anthony Caronna for book information.

Our November Selection: “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien

GoodReads website describes The Things They Carried as “neither a novel nor a short story collection, it is an arc of fictional episodes, taking place in the childhoods of its characters, in the jungles of Vietnam and back home in America two decades later” The Chicago Sun Times hails it as “good as any piece of literature can get.”

If you are new to the book group and not on our e-mail list, contact Sarah Haw so we can get information to you. Books are available to borrow. Newcomers are always welcome!
