Current Study:  “The Mind of Jesus” by William Barclay.

“The Mind of Jesus” seeks to convey a clear understanding of the personality of Jesus. Barclay strives to help the figure of Jesus become more alive to the reader so through understanding the reader will come to love Jesus more. “The aim of the book is to try to make it possible to understand the mind, the work, and the meaning a little better.”

Hands of Hope, Sundays at 10:00 am

Discussion led by Jeff Cooper,

Current Study: Divided We Stand: How to Love When We Disagree (8 weeks, but taking a break for The Angels of Christmas Advent Study starting on Nov. 20 for 4 weeks) by ROBBY ANGLE

How do you love people when you disagree with them?
We live in divided times. The tension of disagreement can be felt at dinner tables, in board rooms, at church gatherings, and in our communities. It can be hard to know how to engage with each other when the gap between us feels like it’s widening.
Jesus lived in divided times, too. He modeled for us what it looks like to love across political, gender, religious, and cultural lines. Jesus’s life was marked by loving people who were wildly different from him, and he calls us to do the same.

Let Susan Ross know if you are interested in attending this study, if you need a book, or if you need childcare. Susan Ross

We often face circumstances that we cannot change: a job we are forced to keep; a relationship that did not work out; a decision we cannot take back. In this 8-session series, Laurie Polich Short reveals how even if we can’t change our circumstances, we can still make a change in our life by the way we see it. With the help of 4 “lenses”, she shows how to access God’s perspective on our circumstances, which can impact the way we live.

In each session, Laurie shows you how to access the bigger “God’s eye view” of your life and opens the scriptures to reveal how this broader perspective can shape your decisions and impact. The study is full of biblical wisdom and personal stories, and Laurie gives many examples of how perspective has influenced the way people lived their lives for God’s glory.

Current Study: The Gospel of Matthew

Scripture study + Zoom discussion led by Betsy Jonas & Susan Ross,

2023 Disciple Bible Study

In 2023, Genesis is offering Jesus in the Gospels. This study begins Sunday, January 8, 2023 and meets Sunday evenings for 30 weeks, with a break in the summer.

Jesus in the Gospels focuses on and compares the portraits of Jesus found in the the four Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Study the name, the place, and the people, and encounter the Jesus who is both hard to ignore and hard to control–a commanding, morally compelling figure. This is a 30 week study.

Long-term Disciple Bible Study classes are an excellent way to learn more about the Bible and how to apply God’s Word to your daily lives. Disciple classes include daily readings of scripture and commentaries from various Christian authors. The class includes a video and discussion of the daily readings. The small group setting enables strong Christian relationships to be built between class members.

Studies include:

  • Disciple 1 – a prerequisite for any of the other Disciple studies. Disciple 1 goes through the entire Bible.
  • Disciple 2 – focuses on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and the book of Acts.
  • Disciple 3 – looks at the Prophets of the Old Testament and the letters of the Apostle Paul.
  • Disciple 4 – studies various writings in the Old Testament, the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation.
  • Christian Believer – a study of the basic tenets of the Christian faith.
  • Jesus in the Gospels – focuses on the portraits of Jesus found in the the four Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Email to express interest and for information on future long or short term Disciple studies.
