Genesis: A Stephen Ministry Congregation

Genesis: A Stephen Ministry Congregation

Are you going through a difficult time? COVID-19 and the social unrest in the world have many of us feeling anxious. We miss our family and friends. We want to go out and do – whatever!   All of us are grieving the things we cannot do.  Other more personal life crises continue.

If you are experiencing anxiety or a life crisis of any type, consider speaking with a Stephen Minister. Your Genesis Stephen Ministry is a team of 15 Christian caregivers that are trained and available for one-on-one confidential conversation. Contact our Stephen Leaders, Kim Kligerman or Lynn Mull stephenministry@genesis-umc.org.

What is Stephen Ministry?

Genesis Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry. Our Stephen Ministers have received 50+ hours of training and are equipped to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.

Care receivers are people—congregation members and others in the community—who receive care from a Stephen Minister. These are people struggling through a difficult time in life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis.

Some important guidelines for this caring relationship protect both the care receiver and the Stephen Minister:

  • The relationship between a care receiver and a Stephen Minister is confidential.
  • Men are matched with men; women with women.
  • When a care receiver’s needs exceed what a Stephen Minister can provide, the Stephen Ministry team can refer you to an appropriate resource.

Genesis’ Stephen Ministry team is ready to listen. Contact our Stephen Leaders, Kim Kligerman or Lynn Mull, stephenministry@genesis-umc.org.
