We have a small group of our congregation who are planning to head to Honduras next year to check out Glen Evans’ newest mission effort, the Honduras Independence Bilingual School. This school is located in the town of Quimistan, which is near the north coast of Honduras. HIBS currently serves students in grades K-5 but has plans to add additional grades as they have classroom space. The school accepts children from all socio economic backgrounds and provides not only an education for the student but support for the parents as well. Bruce Smith, our associate music director, will be joining the team to help students learn and practice English through the use of music. The remaining team members will be helping out with projects around the grounds as well as interacting with students to give them opportunities to speak English.
The group is tentatively scheduled to travel February 10-16, 2019. HIBS is looking for donations of over the counter vitamins and medications for their health clinic and the team would love to take some to them. If you would like to help out by donating items, there will be a collection in the gathering hall beginning January 6th. They are asking for items such as decongestants, antihistamines, cough drops, ibuprofen, Neosporin cream, itch relief cream, band aids, antifungal ointment, and vitamins.
