Holiday “Blues”

Holiday “Blues”

The holidays can be a dark time for many.  In the midst of the joy and celebration of Christmas, it’s easy for us to forget those in our community for whom the idea of Christmas joy is very difficult.

If you find yourself having the “blues” during this season, Genesis offers the following means of comfort and support.

  • Join us on Thursday, December 21st at 7:00 p.m. for a special “Blue Christmas” service. We gather in the midst of suffering to remember God is good. God is strong. God is near. We are not alone, and we have every reason to hold on to hope.
  • Do you find yourself needing to talk to someone as we approach the holidays? Genesis has dedicated Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers who have gifts of compassion and empathy, and have received extensive training in order to walk with those who are facing life challenges.  Please reach out to a Stephen Leader (Kim Kligerman, Becci Monge, Lynn Mull) to help you receive care. stephenministry@genesis-umc.org
  • “Blue Christmas” devotionals by Todd Outcalt are available. This book provides 28 days of “Devotions of Light in a Season of Darkness.” Contact Kim Kligerman (kkligerman@genesis-umc.org) if you would like a copy.

Prayer: Holy God, we pray for those in our church and community who are going through dark or challenging times in their lives. Help them to have the strength to ask for support. We pray that we may offer a means of comfort and peace during this season. In the name of your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
