Music Ministry

Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.  

Adults, youth & children are welcome to participate in our music program at Genesis UMC.  The music ministry is a vital part of our church life offering all styles of church music for all ages.

Vocal Groups

A traditional SATB ensemble, the style of music sung by the Genesis Chancel Choir varies from classical to contemporary. The choir rehearses each Tuesday at 7 p.m., and leads music on Sundays at 11:20 a.m. We are often accompanied by the Genesis Instrumental Ensemble, one of our Handbell Choirs, or the Horns of Praise.

Chancel Choir

The Genesis Praise team leads music at Alive@9 each Sunday. The praise team consists of vocalists, guitarists, drummer and percussionist, bass player, and keyboardists, with frequent accompaniment provided by the Genesis Horns of Praise. This group rehearses on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m.

Rainbow Singers

These choirs are for children ages Kindergarten – Second and Third – Fifth Grades that meet every Sunday at 5 pm in Rooms 102 & 104.  They rehearse anthems for worship, learn a hymn each month and present a spring musical.  They have performed many musicals, such as  Judge Julie Truly, Jonah’s Druthers, I AM and most recently in May 2018,  Hallelujah Harvest. 

All music is chosen with the goal of leading children to learn our Biblical heroes and their trust in God. We use the Growing in Grace music curriculum for Younger We use the Growing in Grace music curriculum for Younger and Older children.

Instrumental Groups

Talented musicians who play woodwind, brass, string or percussion instruments come together to create an ensemble that participates in worship from time to time. Rehearsals are right after the 11:20 a.m. service on Sundays.

If interested, please email your name, contact information, instrument, and general level of playing to Marla so she can prepare arrangements with proper instrumentation.  At least 2 years of middle school band experience is needed to play.

Instrumental Ensemble

This horn section is used to augment the Praise Team on select Sunday services at the Alive @ 9 service.  This is a Chicago/Tower of Power style ensemble intended for more advanced trumpet, saxophone, and trombone instrumentalists.  This group rehearses on a semi-regular basis and on Thursday nights before scheduled worship on Sunday mornings.

Horns of Praise (H.O.P.)

 

This adult handbell group rings 4 octaves of Malmark handbells and choir chimes.  Some music reading experience is required to join this choir. We rehearse each Monday at 7 pm. We ring at least once a month for the 11:20 am service; accompanying the choir, the congregation, as well as solo handbell choir pieces.

Resounding Joy Handbells

This handbell group is for youth grades 4th – 12th.  This group rehearses from 4:15 – 5:00 pm each Sunday afternoon with Mary Pearce.
