Everyone’s journey in widowhood is unique. However, many widows and widowers would like to eliminate dates from the calendar from around mid-November to February 15. Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas are packed with traditions to navigate. Couple holidays such as New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day have their own challenges. How do you get through those first holidays without your spouse? What are some ideas for handling the holidays in widowhood? How does one prepare for anniversaries and other significant life events related to widowhood?
This presentation will share ideas from other widows and widowers including their strategies on how they navigated the holidays.
Jill Kaufman, PhD taught technology classes during her career at IBM. She became a widow in 2015 and as part of her journey studied widowhood books and exchanged ideas with many in widowhood. Jill has presented on widowhood at a Hospice Grief center and has been involved with a widowhood ministry for 3 years.
