In July 2023, Seyun became a part of the Genesis family, assuming the role of Associate Pastor. Growing up in South Korea, he felt a calling to serve in ministry, which led him to study at the Methodist Theological University in Seoul, focusing on Wesleyan Theology and Christian Ethics. In 2015, he relocated to North Carolina to further his studies.
As a full-time graduate student in Durham, Seyun was passionate about integrating his faith into his daily life beyond his academic pursuits. This passion led him to Reality Ministries, where he lived in the Friendship House, a communal home that welcomes people of all abilities. He also interned at several Methodist churches, further affirming his calling to ordained ministry. After graduating summa cum laude from Duke Divinity School with a Master of Divinity in 2018, he began his full-time ministry.
In 2021, Seyun was ordained as an elder in the North Carolina Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. His work took him to various settings, from traditional to newly planted churches, spanning rural, suburban, and urban areas such as Tabor City, Burlington, and Raleigh. These diverse experiences shaped his ministry vision: to build a community of graceful hospitality and celebration where all those seeking God can have enriching, growing experiences in Christ.
Outside the church, Seyun enjoys the simple pleasures of life in his free time. He might be found shopping at H-Mart, reading in a quiet spot, walking or running in a park, or camping at Jordan Lake. A coffee lover, Seyun also enjoys cooking and has recently taken up balcony gardening. Despite his entire family living in Korea, including his father and brother—both of whom are Methodist pastors—he cherishes his time with them, whether it’s virtual or face-to-face.
